Process

Research, User Roles, Infographics, Usability Testing, Wireframes

Outcome

Increased customer engagement by improving communication strategy

I developed a clear communication strategy for One Nation Walking Together by redesigning their website highlighting the organizations impact and how users can contribute by donating goods and volunteering. I used personas, user roles, and wireframes to test designs that reinforced the impact to the community.

Problem Statement

The project aimed to examine the organization website to better communicate events, recruit volunteers, and receive donated goods.

Design Process

Challenge

The project’s challenge revolved around the organization’s vast number of events and services offered to the community. The initial website review could not easily identify how the organization supported their community.

My Responsibilities

  • As a UX Designer, I collaborated with stakeholders to develop a holistic view of the organization

  • I conducted user interviewed to understand various user experiences and perspectives

  • I developed user personas and roles, drafted usability testing sessions, and refined wireframes

Heuristic Evaluations

  • My team conducted heuristic evaluations identifying current design and usability issues

  • Determined the website lacked clear call to actions and communication about events and services

Initial Iteration

Our first attempt to address these challenges was conducting user interviews and creating user journeys to map user perspectives and experiences. While developing user journeys helped compare different routes for event registration and donations, it failed to assist users that need additional assistance.

Additional Research

Conducting additional interviews provided insights into user’s first impressions revealing an over emphasis on the film festival which distracted from the services provided. Synthesizing our initial research efforts resulted in better user expectations and their mental models. The additional interviews influence the goal of simplification while developing wireframes.

Wireframes

Refining our wireframes focusing on navigational clues like heading topics as questions allowed the design to guide user through answers. Understanding what users thought allowed us to adjust and prioritize anticipating questions to better communicate with the community.
