Memorandum
Summary
I co-conducted a series of interviews to learn about past training and education experiences while identifying user frustrations, commonalities, and desired career progression. My thematic analysis identified patterns and themes used to direct further research efforts and led to assisting with designing a discovery workshop. The discovery workshop provided unique possibilities to align divergent perspectives and create dependence maps revealing connections between training opportunities, education requirements, and career progression.
Process: Research, Interviews, Thematic Analysis, Synthesis, Workshop Design
Insight
A revealing insight was a culture fostering an attitude of ongoing optimization, even after achieving the desired outcome. Several interviews mentioned needing a better way to acknowledge achievements and celebrate wins before moving into incremental improvement.
Outcome
The workshop used my research to design activities to uncover knowledge gaps, map current software features and limitations, and identify how training data is gathered and shared. The workshop's function was to reveal overlapping and missing information in the talent management ecosystem that could assist with developing improvements by identifying metrics to define and measure success criteria.
Lessons Learned
Clarify roles and responsibilities when collaborating with multiple teams and agencies
Divide interviews into rounds and reassess the purpose and questions for each round
Align thematic interview analysis with the project's scope and desired outcomes
Problem Statement
How might we create a usable and scalable database that tracks training and skills requirements across multiple talent management ecosystems?
Challenge
Due to the topic's complexity, we curtailed research topics to prevent scope creep and to keep our efforts relevant to the workshop.
