Researching User Engagement and Impact on Hot Storage

Memorandum

Summary

I interviewed several user groups with different roles and objectives and then researched various aspects of data governance. Synthesizing research with user behavior and insights into data needs, led to recommendations that potentially save 15 million dollars.

  • Process: User Interviews, Secondary Research, Defining the problem space, Uncovering research topics, Synthesis, Visual Communication, Presentation

Insight

  • Communication is critical for user engagement

  • Emphasize the platform’s benefit by showcasing what tasks it solves

  • Demonstrate how users can leverage the platform to ease their workload

Problem Statement

  • What are the potential impacts of shortening hot storage?

Challenge

  • Condensed research timeframe and limited access to system users versus administrators

  • Adapted by interviewing various users with different goals and objectives and then triangulated their insights with secondary research to strengthen our findings

Research Findings

  • Platforms can leverage cross-platform use cases and user frustrations to uncover improvements opportunities

  • Continue triangulating user research with quantitative data to gain system-use insights

  • Identify primary user groups to prioritize data needed for proactive and reactionary tasks

I used Figjam to develop a map of research topics to visualize additional improvements opportunities.
